Scientific name: Tricholoma colossus (Fr.) Quél.

Morphological characteristics

Hat:up to 20 cm, hemispherical then convex, finally irregular plane, even depressed; very fleshy, with an orange-red reddish color distributed in patches or streaks. Involved and lobed margin.
slats: hooked, dense, creamy white, reddish brown when ripe.
Stem: 8-12 x 6 cm, stocky, firm, clavate or ventricular cylindrical, concolor to the hat in the lower two thirds and white towards the top; the separation zone has a very fleeting cortisiform ring.
Meat: white then pink-red for a fairly fast color change; light smell.
spore: 8-10 x 6-5 microns.

Edibility, habitat and observations

Relationship with the surrounding plant environment: symbiote mushroom.
It grows in pine forests, especially Pinus sylvestris, in late autumn.
Good edible, can be preserved in oil or pickle.
